Analysis on the Impact of Government Policies towards Technological Innovation Using Evolutionary Game Theory

چکیده
Most of the increased productivity and social wealth in the world over the recent decades can be traced largely to technological innovation. Governments encourage firms’ innovation by providing R&D subsidies and other measures. At the same time, governments regulate technological advancement from the social safety standpoint through various legal and/or institutional measures. Typically, product liability scheme is legislated to assure that these advances do not pose a risk of harm to public. However, there is a public debate that product liability imposes costs that hit new products particularly hard, thus reducing firm’s incentives to innovate and their willingness to bear risk. This research attempts to describe the government policies – innovation linkage as a quantitative model. In particular, this research employs Evolutionary Game Theory to model and simulate the dynamic behavior of the system where governments interact over the time with firms, then analyzes the impacts of typical government policies, i.e. product liability law and R&D subsidies. The results show some useful implications to achieve balanced policy goals between public safety and technological advancement.

Selection of energy source and evolutionary stable strategies for power plants under financial intervention of government
Currently, many socially responsible governments adopt economic incentives and deterrents to manage environmental impacts of electricity suppliers. Considering the Stackelberg leadership of the government, the government’s role in the competition of power plants in an electricity market is investigated. A one-population evolutionary game model of power plants is developed to study how their pro...

With progressing technologies and new features of production, new products compete with older ones in markets. Indeed, new products initiate contest with olden ones and this process repeats in different productions lifetime several times. In this situation recycling the olden products seems to be significant for supply chains. Governments often levy special tariffs for these products as a contr...

In this paper, two games that play a role in creating a cancer tumor and suppression are studied using evolutionary game theory and its different modes are analyzed. The first game is the competition between a cancer cell and a healthy cell to receive food through the blood. In the second game, the interaction between the two oncogenes Ras and Myc is examined for cellular deformation

In this paper, greening, pricing, and advertising policies in a supply chain will be examined with government intervention. The supply chain has two members. First, a manufacturer seeking to determine the wholesale price and the greening level and second, a retailer that has to determine the advertising cost and the retail price. The government is trying to encourage the manufacturer to green t...

In this study, the implications of the government’s tariffs on optimal pricing decisions in a dual-channel SC with one manufacturer and one retailer by taking into account the retailer services are examined. First, the best response strategies of retailer and manufacturer have obtained following the government’s tariffs by using a Stackelberg game model. Then, the government problem has modeled...
